In summer, the mountains around Sottoguda offer endless possibilities for those who love walking. You can choose a walk to a mountain pasture, head to a mountain hut to stop for lunch, or spend the whole day on a high-altitude hike.
But not every destination has a mountain hut waiting for you. Some of the most beautiful spots are precisely the lesser-known ones: quiet valleys, small lakes, high-altitude meadows and paths where you can simply stop to admire the view.
It’s not always about reaching a destination: sometimes it’s the journey itself that makes a day in the mountains special.

Rocca Pietore is famous for its mountain huts, which are veritable treasure troves of Dolomite agricultural tradition and culture. Accessible via easy walks suitable for everyone, these huts will delight you with their warm welcome and the delicious fresh, wholesome produce on offer.
Just a short walk from Malga Ciapela lies Malga Gran Pian, where you can recharge your batteries amidst unspoilt nature, just a stone’s throw from the village centre.
Continuing along the path that starts from Malga Ciapela, you reach Val Ombretta, home to Malga Ombretta and the totem marking the UNESCO Geographical Centre of the Dolomites.
A short distance away, upstream from the wonderful village of Laste, lies Malga Laste. Situated on the panoramic Col de le Casiere, the mountain hut can be reached either on foot or by car. It opens for the summer season on the last weekend of June.
